JATIGEDE DAM WORTH US$ 1.2 MILLION TO BE CONSTRUCTED SOON. The Government has signalled that the construction of Jatigede Dam in Sumedang, West Jave, will be started before long. This US$ 1.2 billion project has been delayed due to the difficulties in obtaining loans. The planned dam is designed to have the capacity to generate 175-300 MWs of electricity and to irrigate 140,000 hectares of agricultural land.
Some 90,000 hectares of this land is currently dependent on rain water for irrigation purposes. Of the total 4,580 hectares of land which is required for the project, some 40% has been cleared.
